Russia Takes Lead In Proposed Cigarette Sales Ban

Russia has one of the highest rates of smoking in the world, with a pack of cigarettes costing only around £1.10 and is now discussing the option of banning the sale of cigarettes to anyone born after 2015.

Pic: Russia cigarette banWhilst it seems that no other country is prepared to actually ban the sale of one of the biggest causes of cancer on the planet, Russia is considering this final step in tackling it's nicotine addiction.

Whilst most other countries are only now investigating the alternative in the form of E-Cigarettes and increasing the cost of buying the product, the idea of a ban on the sale of this carcinogen ; is now actually being considered.

Russia has one of the highest smoking rates in the world with 43% of Russians smoking. The ban is intended to stop a whole new generation from ever getting hooked on the carcinogenic properties of tobacco products, and eventually making smoking in the country a thing of the past.

By introducing one of the world's strictest smoking bans in 2033, Russia hopes this will have a drastic effect upon the number of smokers in the country.

When you look at the cost of smoking tobacco to the health of people, to the cost of health services across the globe treating the results of smoking in terms of the appalling effects on those who smoke and their families and loved ones, it is amazing that a product which kills far more people then heroine; remains legally on sale.

Many will argue that all a ban would do is send the product into a black market similar to illicit drugs, there are those who believe it to be immoral to be allowing the mass-production and sale of a product which kills the user.
